Marek Horoščák is a Czech playwright, born in Brno in 1976. He studied Dramaturgy at Janáček’s Academy of Dramatic Arts (JAMU). He has worked in Czech radio, a number of Czech theatres, including the National Theatre in Prague. Marek teaches dramaturgy at JAMU and works for Czech Television. He has written a number of plays of which three, including Boiled Heads, were translated into English by Eva Daníčková. Boiled Heads was awarded a second prize in the competition for the Best Original Czech or Slovak Play awarded by the Alfréd Radok Foundation in1999. In 2007 he finished his PhD studies at Theatre Faculty of Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno and started teaching contemporary drama analysis for directors and dramaturgs. The topic of the PhD thesis was “Royal Court Theatre Phenomenon and The Plays of the Turn of Millenium”, published in 2008 (ISBN 978-80-86928-37-1).
Marek’s latest play Hell (translation by Eva Daníčková) was developed as a part of the Royal Court Theatre International Residency in summer 2010.
